When a team is on the kind of roll the Mets are on, you take advantage of every mistake your opponent makes to carve out a win each night. And last night the Mets did just that beating the raves 3-2 in walk-off fashion.
Luis Severino gave them 5 solid innings and then Jose Butto carved out 2 scoreless innings bridging the Met bullpen needs for the game. From an offensive standpoint, the Mets were facing Chris Sale who pitched great with the only blemish being a 2 run homer off the bat of Francisco Lindor who kept hearing chants of MVP from the home crowd. Quite honestly, I can tell you he should be a real candidate for that award as he has lifted the Mets up the standings in recent weeks.

Another aspect of this Met run has been taking full advantage of mistakes and the Braves had their share on this night including a botched suicide squeeze attempt in the 10th inning. It allowed the Mets to walk it off on a Jeff McNeil RBI hit as his red hot bat continues to percolate.
And the Mets keep rising in the wild card standings as they own that second spot and are just a half a game back of the first wild card spot which the Braves own. A win tonight would leapfrog the Mers into that top wild card spot as Kodai Senga makes his season debut.
This team began June 11 games under 500 and now sit 6 games over 500 meaning in past 7 weeks they are 17 games over 500. And they have had a different hero every night–someimes more than 1 per night as yesterdays game proved with McNeil, Butto and Lindor all wearing that hero hat. And in the last 2 nights, they sent two star pitchers—Gerrit Cole and Chris Sale home shaking their heads. And that has become a recurring theme in this Met season.
