With 7games remaining in the regular season, the math is simple–If the Mets win tonight and take 2 of 3 in Atlanta, they are in the playoffs. Now we all know that is not an easy road as facing Wheeler tonight and then heading to Atlanta makes the journey tough but this Met team has faced tough moments all year with focus and determination.
They have been missing their best player for over a week but still tough it out on a nightly basis. The starting rotation ha given a quality start each night and the offense is still percolating getting contributions from every corner of the clubhouse. Francisco Alvarez and Pete Alonso have found their power swinds, Brandon Nimmo continues to provide big hits and players like Luisangel Acuna have given the Mets offense from a new source.
And that is the way teams survive a long season to get to the post-season. The Mets were 22-33 entering June but since that point, have been the best team in baseball. They are 86-69 which means they are 28 games over 500 since June 1. It also means going 4-3 i their last 7 gives them a 90 win season which denotes a championship-caliber roster.
They sit 2 games ahead of the Braves with 1 game remaining before the big series in Atlanta and how fitting it would be for this fan base if they could earn a playoff spot in a town in which the Mets have endured a plethora of disappointing times.
And I can tell you this is a special team because they take hits and keep fighting back as well as ay team in the sport. Like I have been saying all year this is 1973 revisited as OMG and You Gotta Believe will be two concepts that will be in the minds of Met fans forever.
