The Long Island Marathon returns.

After a long Covid induced lapse, The Long Island Marathon returned to Eisenhower Park this Sunday, May 1,2022. Featuring half and full length races, runners from all over the Metro area participated in the event. The weather was perfect for race day, with cool temps and light winds at the start. Here is the list of both Men’s and Women’s winners of both the half and full Marathon.
Security for these events is a large concern given the unhappy history of terrorist attacks in the past. The Nassau County Police Dept , with it’s various different commands, such as the Emergency Service Bureau, The Bureau of Special Operations, Communications, the Mounted Unit, along with the Nassau County Parks Dept, The FBI, and Homeland Security were all in attendance, lead by NCPD’s Comm Patrick Ryder. In a brief interview, Comm Ryder expressed his confidence that the tight security would defer any attempts on the event. Please listen below to his comments.
During the half Marathon, Valery Gendleman was nearing the inish line, when an unknown person to her, gave her a Ukraine flag which she ran to end with.
