- Panthers – Kyle Hamilton -This is one of the more fascinating scenarios because the coach, Matt Ruhle, needs to win now. The second-year, GM Scott Fitterer, needs to build. Arguably the best defensive player in the draft comes close to satisfying all concerned. There’s no 2nd-round pick so Carolina must get this right.
- Giants – David Ojabo, DE, Michigan – The smart, physical build of the Giants has Big Blue fans pinching themselves. Pressuring the QB is the best attribute a defense can have. Ask the Bucs and Rams.
- Falcons – Derek Stingley, CB, LSU – Amazing to think the Falcons recently had one of the most vaunting receiving corps in the game. They could go that route, especially with Calvin Ridley set to walk in free agency. But every receiver in this draft comes with a wart/ Stingley can shut down one side of the field.
- Broncos – Kenny Pickett, QB, Pittsburgh – Teddy Bridgewater? No. Drew Lock? No. Brett Rypien? Please. Only the legalization of pot in 2012 has kept Mile High fans from freaking out about the void at QB. Pickett is the most NFL-ready of the QB’s.
- Jets – George Karlaftis, DE, Purdue – Our favorite defensive player in the draft. Karlaftis is multi-sport star (Water polo! Shot put!). Let the great New York 2022 Draft debate begin: Who got the better DE? Wouldn’t it be a much-needed result if it’s a tie.
- Shammers, uh Commanders – Malik Willis, QB, Liberty – We love Taylor Heinicke. Love! But after a full season of a sample size, it’s clear he’s not a franchise QB. Is Willis? He showed flashes at the Senior Bowl. Ron Rivera has the luxury of time to find out.
- Vikings – Ahmad Gardner, CB, Cincinnati – Patrick Peterson is a free agent and Cameron Dantzler doesn’t remind anyone of Deion Sanders. The Vikings believe they have enough on offense with Kirk Cousins, Justin Jefferson and Dalvin Cook. We don’t believe in Cousins but appreciate the Vike’s approach.
