It’s was a sunny, dry, cool, late afternoon at the east lot of the Bellmore train station. And Trump supporters were once more setting up their rally for the day. For several times a week over the past 15 months, people from all over Long Island have gathered here to peacefully march , and protest , sometimes loudly, a variety of issues. Beginning last year with the lead up and fall out from the 2020 election, to Covid protocols, and issues of current political events, this group , founded by The Long Island Loud Majority, has received both support and push back from the local community
This night, as traffic moved along Sunrise Highway, truckers sounded their horns, cars honked, and sometimes the occupants shot the bird to the vocal , active ,and flag waving crew. The founders of the Loud Majority, Kevin Smith and Shawn Farash, both gave interviews , and talked about the Red Wave on Long Island , and in other parts of the country. Both said that the group has the backs and the voices of the working people on Long Island, they strongly opposed government mandates for covid protocols, and other current issues .
We talked about how their perception of local media outlets tried to show them of being Jan 6 rioters, goons , and angry violet protesters and howThe Loud majority defended every ones right to peaceful protest no matter what the cause. An interesting thing to report, when I arrived at the scene , looking for some one to interview, I asked several people, “who’s your spoke person?” At least 6 people said, “talk to any one here, we ar all in this together”. People of ages, genders, color and backrounds were in attendance, and I would think they will carry on in the quest they follow.
