In 1955 the world was a very different place. Elvis Presley was on the ascension. The Brooklyn Dodgers won the World Series. And the only NHL team in New York was the Rangers. Oh and Borrelli’s Restaurant in East Meadow, Long Island was first established.
My how times have changed.
Elvis Presley is no longer on this Earth, at least, we don’t think he is. The Dodgers now play in Los Angeles. And the Islanders came to Long Island in 1972 and have challenged the Rangers for NY supremacy ever since.
All that being said, there is one thing that hasn’t changed and that’s the fact Borrelli’s is still standing and serving customers by the hundreds, if not thousands.
Frank Borrelli Sr. is currently in charge of the place and he welcomes Islanders fans to his establishment as if they were family. Borrelli’s is a destination for the Isles Faithful. From the viewing parties to the atmosphere, the restaurant bleeds blue and orange as much as any fan.
Even in its darkest hour, the COVID-19 pandemic, Borrelli’s continued to provide take-out meals for customers. And just when it seemed like the fat lady had sung, David Portnoy from Barstool Sports created the Barstool Fund and used the money to save Borrelli’s.
Now, back and better than ever, Borrelli’s is again home to Islanders fans during the playoffs and one can only hope that there will be many more viewing parties to come in the following days and weeks.
After all, it’s the place to be and nothing is going to keep the Isles Faithful away.
