For the past couple of weeks, the Mets have lost some heartbreaking contests but turned the tables on Sunday with a 3 run ninth inning highlighted by big RBI hits from both Harrison Bader and Omar Narvaez for a spirited come from behind 4 to 3 win.
As the Mets entered that inning, they were 3 outs away from falling10 games under 500 but Harrison Bader put it best when he said, “When I think about the games we played in the last 10-15 days one pitch decided some of those games. If it does not go your way, you simply cannot lose your mind as you just have to keep plugging along.” If the truth be told, Bader helped with both his bat and glove. He stroked the game tying RBI hit and also stole a homer off the bat of Matt Chapman jumping over the wall to snare the ball which was a play that seemed to energize the team.
“We needed that one especially how things are going of late”, commented Met manage Carlos Mendoza, “and credit the fan base as they kept us energized the whole day.” The sellout crowd was into it all day as the win snapped a 5 game Met losing streak. Sean Manea and Adrian Houser combined to pitch well giving up only 3 runs to keep the Mets within distance.
The Dodgers come to town for a 3 game series and we will see David Peterson on the hill for the Mets on Wednesday with Tylor Megill and Jose Quintana opening the series on Monday and Tuesday nights at Citi. The Mets took 2 of 3 from the Dodgers in Los Angeles earlier this season and really need to start piling some wins together.
Sunday’s come from behind victory will hopefully be a catalyst to get on a roll as the team badly needs a winning steak to get some confidence back in the Met dugout.
