When the Mets obtained Luis Severino they thought he would round out the rotation but he has been much more than that. In fact, he has given the team for the most part ace-like performances and that was ilustrated in last night’s 6-2 win over the Nats.

He gave them 6 solid innings giving up only 2 runs and let the Met offense do the rest. Speaking of that offense, Brandon Nimmo remains super hot as he ignited the night with yet another homer giving the Mets the lead for good in the first inning. He is sending the message that he is going to make others pay for his All-Star snub.

Jose Iglesias continues to get big hits as he plated 2 important runs and Mark Vientos chipped in with a two doubles that extended innings right in the middle of offensive rallies.

The win raises the Mets to 1 game over 500 and they are now within a half a game of the Padres who currently hold that 3rd Wild Card spot. It is interesting to note the Mets hold a 2 game lead in the all iimportant loss column over those Padres and even in striking distance of the top wild card team—the Braves—trailing them by only 5 in the loss column.

Since that now famous clubhouse meeting the team is 24-12 and clearly a playoff contender. And both Severino and Nimmo are 2 big reasons why that is the case.
