Jets Land The Quarterback They Have Been Waiting For To Write The 2023 Script For Jet Fans By Rich Coutinho/TheNYExtra.com

We spent last year watching the Jets stumble through the season never having a quarterback who could make a win happen late in the game. It certainly made the team think that to be a playoff team and ultimately a Super Bowl contender that getting a true field general was a priority for Jet management. And when Aaron Rodgers proclaimed his desire to be a Jet, the pressure on the team to obtain the future Hall of Famer intensified especially when other teams like the 49ers made overtures to the Packers.

These negotiations were not simple as the Jets had to balance the value of dealing future picks with the hope that they are filling the biggest vacancy on their current roster. They decided that they were willing to part with this year’s first rounder but only if they flipped picks with the Packers but in order to do that they had to relinquish next year’s #1 pick provided that Rodgers plays in over 65% of the Jet snaps next season–if he does not, it becomes a second-round pick.

The notion that the Jets were fleeced by this is utter nonsense when you consider if Rodgers does indeed play in over 65% of the snaps the Jets are likely a playoff team. And Rodgers is a smart man knowing that this Jet defense will likely give him far better starting field position in his drives knowing that they will get turnovers and get their share of 3 and outs on the defensive possessions. He also knows that should he deliver for this Jet team it would put him on equal footing with Tom Brady who delivered for Tampa Bay after leaving the Patriots.

This is a win for both sides as Rodgers will get a chance to develop young players like Garrett Wilson but he knows why he is here. He said when looking at the Jets lone Super Bowl trophy, “It looks kind of lonely there.”

Rodgers also said, “I want to put my stamp on the offense and the locker room letting guys know what the expectation is going to be. It is time for all of us to set the proper expectation about this team. Like I said last year when I played them, they’re not the same old Jets.”

Certainly not anymore with a legendary quarterback holding the controls. A historic day in Jet history happened today. All the silliness of the past is way in the rear view mirror. Aaron Rodgers will make sure of that.
