Mets Beat The Orioles With Power Bats To Earn A Winning Road Trip By Rich Coutinho,The New York Extra/TheNYExtra.com

The Mets earned a winning road trip with a 14 to 1 blowout of the Orioles as they crushed 6 home runs pinning the loss on Ex Met Matt Harvey.

The long ball carnage started early as Pete Alonso went yard in the first inning off Harvey but teammates Kevin Pillar and Billy McKinney each crushed 2 homers and Mason Williams chipped in with one of his own.
We are at the 54 game mark of the season as one third of the game inventory is in the books and the Mets are right on target for a 90 win season.

And when you consider that 54 game inventory includes only 20 games at home in which the Mets are 15 and 5 it is a huge accomplishment  Granted they have a plethora of doubleheaders to make up cancellations but to be where they are in the standings is downright amazing considering all of the injuries coupled with the fact that they have played 14 more games on the road than at home and we know how lethal they are at home for opponents to tackle.

This 9 game road trip in which they went 5 and 4 is pretty eye opening when you consider that 4 games ago they stood at 2 and 3 and won 3 of the next four with 2 of those victories coming against the high octane Padres.
They will see them again on this upcoming home stand as well as the Chicago Cubs who swept them on the road earlier in the season.

It will be a good test for the Mets at home who currently sit at 10 games over 500 in the confines of Citi. There are plenty of games left in this season especially inside the division but the Mets have proven they are outstanding in those contests as well.

But most importantly, the starting pitching is headed by a trio of hurlers all with ERA numbers well under 3.00 that carry the load on this team. However, for that group.it is always nice to get a game like this final game of the road trip in Baltimore  where the offense played Home Run Derby.
Speaking of that, Pete Alonso is starting to swing that long ball bat we saw in 2019 and if that continues watch out NL East as the other teams in this division could be heading for a  long and painful summer.
